Maxim Satellite Tuner IC Includes On-chip VCOs
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2002--Maxim
Integrated Products introduces the MAX2116/MAX2118, the world's most
highly integrated zero IF tuners for satellite set-top boxes. These
integrated circuits comprise a complete satellite receiver front end,
requiring only a few external passive components, with guaranteed
operation over the full 950MHz to 2150MHz frequency range. Designed
for use with most satellite demodulators, the MAX2116/MAX2118 provide
industry-leading performance and integration, including fully
integrated voltage-controlled oscillators. The MAX2116 has
single-ended I and Q outputs; the MAX2118 has differential outputs.
Both are controlled by a 2-wire command interface.
Eliminating the need for a 30V regulator, varactors, and discrete
inductors and capacitors, the MAX2116/MAX2118 offer distinct
advantages in satellite set-top box designs that use external VCO tank
circuits. This saves board space and cost, and eliminates the
difficult tank circuit design task. Most important, the
MAX2116/MAX2118's high level of integration makes it possible to place
the tuner directly on the main board, eliminating the need for costly
tuner modules. The on-chip architecture offers guaranteed DSS- and
DVB-compatible performance while minimizing the RF engineering support
needed in production.
The MAX2116/MAX2118 are available in a 6mm x 6mm 40-pin QFN
package and operate from a 5V supply over a 0 degrees C to +85 degrees
C temperature range. Prices start at $4.98 (1000-up, FOB USA).
Evaluation kits are available.
